Learn tips for a secure Guatemala City airport transfer, from avoiding common scams to finding current pricing information for your journey.
We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Guatemala City from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Grab the Uber app before landing. It runs without drama across Guatemala City when taxis vanish. Save the headache. Locals swear by it after dark.
TransMetro BRT hugs its own lane. Board only at marked stations. Tap your white prepaid card at the turnstile. Fast, cheap, no bargaining.
Yellow cab from Zone 1 to Zone 10 costs around half what hotels bill for private rides. Haggle politely, then climb in.
Airport shuttle lands at Plaza Mayor in Zone 1. From there, step straight onto TransMetro lines. One swipe, downtown bound.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unofficial porters swarm arriving passengers, grab bags without asking, then demand inflated tips. Firmly say "no, gracias" and keep luggage close, or insist on a pre-agreed amount before they touch anything.
Taxi touts inside the terminal quote flat rates that are double or triple the metered fare. Ignore them, exit to the official taxi stand outside arrivals, and confirm the driver uses the meter or shows the authorized fare sheet.
Currency-exchange booths just past security advertise "no commission" but bury a poor rate in the fine print. Change only a small amount at the airport and use ATMs or city banks for better rates.
